Today is a sad sad day. My heart goes out to the Garner family. I want them to know that even with his passing he will not forgotten. Great sites like this one and others will not let him to be forgotten. I have appreciated his body of work for decades. I even named my only son after him. Thank you

I was a kid in the 70s and I remember how much I enjoyed Garner in the role of Jim Rockford. He was a very relatable character who seemed like a down to earth working class guy. His wit and charm came across as genuine and he also drove a cool car! I've liked his work in every role I have seen him in but my favorite will always be as the iconic Jim Rockford.

Hi Jim, I just stumbled on your site a few weeks ago. Your work is greatly appreciated. Yes, sad day for me also. Only two actors passing's have ever really touched me; James Garner and Vic Morrow... I was a huge fan of James and the 'Rockford Files' back in the '70's as a very young police officer here in the Dallas area, even buying a 1977 Pontiac Firebird in 1980... :-) The influence remained strong all my life. Even now as I near retirement with the Sheriff's Department, I have secured a license as a PI in Texas. Do you have any plans of another Rockford Files reunion?
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis, I am very happy that you like this blog. It is always nice to hear from a fellow fan of the Rockford Files. Pat McKinney is running an event on September 13, 2014. This is his baby. You can email him at [email protected].
Thanks,
Jim

I didn't know Jim had passed away until Sunday morning. My husband was looking at the news on his computer when I heard him say, "OH!" and I knew - even before he told me - I knew just by the sound of his voice. I went numb. I'd been expecting this any day of course, like waiting for the other shoe to drop, hoping and praying every day that this would not be The Day. But, it was.
I haven't stopped crying yet. Oh, I'm not as bad as I was the first couple of days, but I still feel that my world is forever changed - and not for the better. It seems darker and colder now that Jim's warmth and radiance are no longer in it. It seems many others feel the same way.
I can't even begin to imagine how Jim's family is feeling - his wife, Lois, and daughters Kim and Gigi. Losing this wonderful human being who could light and warm a room just by his presence must be overwhelming.
James Garner has been my hero ever since Maverick in 1957 when I was 13. It's been a lot of years, and I'm sure I'll never find anyone that I admire as much as I have Jim Garner over all that time. REAL heroes are in very short supply....
