Rockford Files Firebird Paint Codes
By Jim Suva
Over the last few years a number of people have asked for these paint codes. Most of them are trying to replicate the Rockford Files Firebird.
Pat McKinney who owns two original Rockford Firebirds, had a paint chip analyzed from his 1977 Rockford Firebird. He then matched the color to his 1978 Rockford Firebird, which had the Rockford color showing through in a number of areas. The color is Lt. Topaz.
Below are the paint codes. On the left is the original GM Buckskin color. On the right is the Rockford Files color.
Here is a picture of his 1977 Firebird being restored with this paint color on it.
HI, Jim, I think Bill would have liked us to start matching our 78 with the right colors. Do you happen to know the correct carpet color, looks like there's 3 options... medium doeskin, doeskin and caramel. Blessings, Jan

That is nice that you are going to finish up the Firebird for Bill. I am not sure, but I believe it is caramel out of those 3 options. I thought it was camel tan. The 78's had a darker interior then my 77. My color interior is doeskin. I would love to see pictures when the Car is done.

I wonder how close this Formula comes to the 1974 color Colonial Gold. Since Rockford began with a '74 Esprit I assumed that the original car was the factory Colonial Gold and later cars were painted to match the original '74. Some colors in later birds were close, but they don't look like the Rockford car.

I believe the 74 color was Denver gold. Which is a lot different then the the Rockford Color listed above. The 75 -78's were all painted the Lt. Topaz color above. It is also known as Serrie gold a 1965 Cadillac color.
